Our Local Area

There are oodles of ways to pass the time when you are holiday-ing in the heart of the beautiful Kent countryside.

If you’re looking for fun things to do whilst you’re in Kent, then take a look at our round-up below.

There’s plenty of interesting places to visit, and walks to tackle.Whether you’re looking put put on your walking boots and ramble through the woods, or to take a mooch through the pretty villages, our scenic spot is rich in attractions to discover and activities to enjoy.

Oh, and be sure to swing by after your day out, and tell us about your travels (over a glass of something lovely.)

Tonbridge

Tonbridge is at the heart of the most eye-bogglingly beautiful area of Kent.

We’re sandwiched nicely between the High Weald and Kent Downs Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (we’re not bragging – that’s its official name.)

With lots to see and do, plus plenty of wild-welly-walks, there’s a great many ways to get amongst nature.

Tonbridge Castle

Now this is a proper medieval castle. Perfect for history buffs and novices alike, you’ll spot it standing guard over the town and you’ll step from the high street into 950 years of history.

Explore the gatehouse, great hall, those oh-so winding stairs plus (slightly spooky) cellar. Landlady Ruthie recommends you climb the motte for breathtaking views across the whole town. Stunner.

West Malling

Now this is a pretty little market town with a lot to offer. Darling little shops and eateries, plus plenty of places to pop-in for a bite to eat, or to pick up some local produce.

Definitely worth taking a 1/2 day trip to have a mooch along the high street.

Lovely Local Walk

Whether you’re kipping over with your dog, or are just a lover of the great outdoors, this is just a really joyful jaunt.

Starting at the Carpenter’s Arms (naturally) and passing through fields, stiles, kissing gates and Great Fish Hall, (a grade II listed mansion.) You can download and map or simply follow the excellent instructions.

Ightham Mote

This National Trust treasure is just 6-miles from our pub.

Take a morning to explore the 14th-century moated manor house, 14 acres of gardens (including an orchard, water features and lakes) and gorgeously green woodland.

There’s even a natural play area, where you can splash in the natural stream, and tackle balance beams and stepping stones. Bliss.
